I’ve been tattooing 14 years, but for the last 10 years I’ve had the fortunate opportunity of changing peoples’ lives by my preferred medium of art, tattooing. I’ve come to learn that the artistry is not the only end goal, there is so much more to it. It’s the challenge it gives us to elevate our craft. It’s the transformation of the person. When someone has lost a literal part of their body, it affects their mental health and relationships. It takes from life in so many ways, but tattooing can be the energy breaker from feeling broken to beautiful. Since my first scar cover over, a mastectomy, over 10 years ago, it became my quest to change as many lives as I could.
A vast majority of us suffer from some sort of anxiety, depression, and/or other mental health issues. Giving back in this way helps combat our own demons, giving worth to ourselves and our work…People notice that, people want to be a part of that.
In 2016 I moved to Florida to advance my career. For months I went door to door to every plastic surgeon, cancer centers, and hospitals leaving press packets with all the information I could pack in there on myself. Determination wasn’t the word. It was manifestation, hard work, long hours. In three years, 2019, me and my wife opened Metamorphosis Ink in Dunedin, FL. A studio specifically focused on scar covers and breasts, both women and men. I have 3 protégés following in my footsteps who are learning this same art.
Tattooing has been used for many sacred, spiritual, and healing rituals since the beginning of humanity. What I do today is really no different. “Transforming Scars, Transforming Lives, One Drop of Ink at a Time.
